How to Use rabbitPAY for Fixed Route and Stop Hopper Buses

rabbitPAY smartcard, or buy traditional paper tickets from a kiosk. Riders can choose the most convenient payment method or mix and match according to

Equipment Overview
Validators
Orange bus pass validators are located at the front of buses near the driver. When boarding, either tap your rabbitPAY card on the top to pay the fare, or scan the QR code on your paper ticket or smartphone pass near the bottom reader.
Fareboxes
Large black fare boxes are located at the front of the bus near the driver and orange validator. If paying in cash, place cash into the slot on top of the farebox. Exact change is required. Change cards are not available.
Ticket Kiosks
Turn cash into a paper bus pass before boarding! Follow the instructions on the touchscreen to pay for a pass in cash. The machine will distribute a paper pass that will be scanned on the orange validator inside the bus. Ticket kiosks are located throughout the service area:

Loading Your Account
To add money to a rabbitPAY account, download the rabbitPAY smartphone app from the app store and create an account.
No smartphone? Log in to pay.rabbittransit.org (Coming soon!) on a computer or tablet and add money to a rabbitPAY account online.
GET A rabbitPAY CARD
rabbitPAY cards can be purchased from any of the ticket kiosks for $3.50. Riders can also visit a rabbittransit office location to get a card.
LOST OR STOLEN CARD?
rabbitPAY accounts can be frozen until a new card is obtained and linked to the account. Log into the rabbitPAY app or pay.rabbittransit.org, go to Account Settings, and select “Lost Card.” Follow the instructions to freeze the account temporarily.
HOW TO LINK A rabbitPAY CARD
Log in to the rabbitPAY app or pay.rabbittransit.org. Under “Account Settings,” select “Add a rabbitPAY card” and input the card information. The card will be linked and can be used to tap & pay single-ride fares when boarding buses.
Transfers
Riders who use a rabbitPAY method of payment (smartphone, smartcard, or kiosk ticket) to pay their fare can transfer between fixed route buses for free. Smartphone passes and paper tickets expire (2) consecutive hours after activation (digital pass) or being scanned (paper tickets).
Riders paying cash should alert the driver of their first bus that they need a transfer. The driver will give the rider a paper transfer ticket that will need to be scanned at the orange validator on the next bus.
A small transfer upcharge may fee applies for riders transferring between fixed routes, commuter, and microtransit.

Purchase a rabbitPAY paper ticket through a kiosk.
Validate your fare through the ticket. To board, point the QR code on the paper ticket toward the bottom of the validator on the bus.
Better: rabbitPAY Smartcard
Purchase the reuseable rabbitPAY smartcard, then reload as needed through pay.rabbittransit.org.
Validate your fare through the smartcard. To board, scan the card with the reader located at the top of the validator on the bus.

Fare capping means fairer fares on your phone!
When you use the rabbitPAY app, instead of buying passes in advance, you earn them as you go. Once you reach the cost of a month pass, you can ride free for the rest of the month (when you pay with rabbitPAY).

How Does It Work?
Earning a Month Pass:
Once you’ve paid the equivalent of a month pass in a calendar month, you can ride free for the rest of the month. Here’s an example:
- Julia uses the bus to get to and from work every weekday and to go shopping on the weekend.
- She uses the Adult fare, so she pays $1.50 each way.
- After just 12 days, she’s spent $18 and she automatically earns a month pass. The rest of her rides are free for the month!

Tap the card on top of the orange validators in buses to pay a single-ride fare. Use the card at rabbitPAY kiosks to purchase multi-ride passes.
rabbitPAY Paper Tickets
Purchase of paper tickets is available for select fare options such as 1-ride and 11-ride passes.
