b'message from the directorMobility is woven into the fabric of our community. Transit is the great equalizer, providing the opportunities for all of our residents to fully participate in society, connecting our neighbors to employment, medical and social services, socialization or recreation. Mobility allows individuals to have a fuller, more robust quality of life.Change was the single word and sentiment that was at the core of the past fiscal year, not only for our regional transit system, but for the transportation industry as a whole. On November 18, 2021, the inaugural board meeting commenced for the Susquehanna Regional Transportation Authority (SRTA or the Authority), which does business as rabbittransit. It was the culmination of decades of planning and three years of a joint management agreement. The focus at the center of the conversations was always about advancing mobility for the region.February brought new challenges and changes as we announced a service reduction as a response to staff shortages. The shortage of driver applicants and difficulty in finding qualified candidates was at the core of the reductions for fixed route and paratransit service. However, the Authority continued to provide essential transportation to thousands of residents for employment, medical care and food access, despite the service modifications. Like many businesses, transit has been impacted by employee shortages in the marketplace and COVID complications. The combination of those two issues affected our service areas impacting our workforce, our riders and much more. We are hopeful FY 2022-2023 marks a new beginning as we focus on regional initiatives, empathy-based leadership for our workforce and improving our infrastructure for the future.'
