FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Stop For Harrisburg rabbitEXPRESS

York, PA – rabbittransit announces the addition of a new stop on its commuter service between York and Harrisburg at the PHEAA building located at 1200 N 7th St. In June, rabbittransit launched a survey known as “rabbitrequest” to solicit input from the community. In response to the data collected, a fourth vehicle was introduced on the rabbitEXPRESS service in September to meet the growing demand from commuters. Also in response to the survey was the creation and addition of the newest rabbitEXPRESS stop.

Nationally, public transit ridership continues to surge as gas prices decline. “The record increase in public transportation trips demonstrates the exceptional value of public transportation in today’s economy,” said American Public Transportation Association (APTA) President William W. Millar. “The fact that public transit ridership surged while gas prices and highway travel declined, shows a growing demand for more bus and rail services.”

The PHEAA stop is located after the current Capitol stop. rabbittransit does not anticipate the extra stop adding time to the existing schedule.  The rabbitEXPRESS service, which began in June 2006 with only three 24-passenger vehicles, now includes three 55-passenger coaches and a 33-passenger transit bus. As gas prices continue to fall and rise unpredictably, rabbittransit has seen an increase in both the number of trips taken on the 83 North service and the number of requests for additional service.  rabbittransit is currently planning a new service which will connect York County to Northern Maryland and is slated to launch on February 2.

rabbittransit has received Congestion Mitigation Area Quality (CMAQ) funding from the York Area Metropolitan Planning Organization to assist in the operation of the rabbitEXPRESS service. For more information on mobility options, please visit www.rabbittransit.org

rabbittransit, York County’s public transportation system, provides a variety of transportation services to the residents of York County. Nearly 6,000 people depend on rabbittransit each day to get to work, medical facilities, school and other life-sustaining activities. rabbittransit is dedicated to helping all York Countians get to where they want to go.
