FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
rabbittransit WINS GREEN POWER AWARD

York, PA rabbittransit was honored last week with a Green Power Award from PennFUTURE in recognition of its conversion to biodiesel. PennFUTURE is a leading environmental organization that advances policies to further energy and economic improvement. rabbittransit Executive Director Richard Farr accepted the award at a luncheon ceremony in Philadelphia.
Last February, rabbittransit announced its partnership with the City of York to use biodiesel in some City and transit vehicles. This demonstration, which used primarily B20 (20 percent biodiesel), was so successful that rabbittransit introduced the use of B5 biodiesel to the rest of its fleet in July 2006.
“A key component of rabbittransit's mission is to be good stewards of our communities’ trust and resources. We have made a commitment to use this alternative fuel source because we believe it is the right thing to do for the communities we serve,” explains Farr.
The addition of B5 will allow rabbittransit to immediately decrease its dependence on diesel fuel produced from foreign oil by 30,000 gallons per year. rabbittransit is the first public fleet in Pennsylvania to use biodiesel on a regular basis and was awarded a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection grant to cover the extra cost of biodiesel fuel.
