Peter's New Bunny Trail

rabbitEXPRESS riders relax with a little holiday fun as they celebrate onboard with an Easter Party. Driver, Betty, dons a bunny costume for the festivities.

The York Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (YAMPO) is developing a long range transportation plan. YAMPO is responsible for planning and recommending which transportation improvements receive federal and state funding for all of York County. The Long Range Plan is the document that guides the decision-making process. This plan will look at the transportation system’s needs through the year 2035.

In order to ensure that the best decisions are made for York County residents, please visit www.rabbittransit.org (click on the Transportation Madness banner) and complete the survey.

rabbit Rider's of Tomorrow

rabbittransit is hopping... with preschoolers! More than one hundred children will visit rabbittransit this spring from local schools. Future rabbit riders take a tour of the facilities, ride the bus and visit the ever-popular bus wash, otherwise known as, the “bunny bath.”

Funding Woes = Service Cuts

Despite an overall increase in ridership, service cuts loom ahead as York County prepares to face the state funding crisis for transit.

The plan of action being outlined includes service cuts of 18,000 hours, which is equal to all Saturday, Sunday and Weekday evening service, and modest fare increases.

There is very little movement in Harrisburg, which is prompting the transportation agency to begin preparing for a $900,000 shortfall for the next fiscal year. No service is safe, including the senior shared ride program and the new rabbitEXPRESS commuter service between York and Harrisburg. The latter of which will not continue beyond 2009 if the state funding situation is not improved.

rabbittransit will hold a series of public meetings regarding service cuts and its proposed plan of action in late summer or early fall. Reductions to service and fare increases will be implemented by December 2007 unless dedicated and inflation-sensitive funding can be identified.

Get Moving in May

Did you know May is National Bike Month? In fact, an average of 275 riders bike to the bus stop every month. This can be good for your health and wealth! We encourage you to try it during the month of May as the League of American Bicyclists and rabbittransit celebrate Bike-to-Work Week, May 14 -18.
