rabbittransit Launches “App” for Android Phones
Application Shows Real-time Bus Locations

York, PA rabbittransit announced the launch of a new application for the Android smart phone, which allows riders to locate the bus in real-time on Google Maps. The “app” provides information for the Route 1, which is the most trafficked rabbittransit line with more than 500,000 riders a year. The rabbitEXPRESS service to Harrisburg and Maryland and the York College Green Machine service are also included within the application.
The Android app can be downloaded for FREE by searching “rabbittransit” in the Android Market. The introduction of this latest app is part of a major technology initiative, known as smarthop, which was introduced in September 2010.
Other smarthop highlights include the Infopoint section of the rabbittransit website, which displays real-time information and the ability to view up-to-the-minute bus locations for all routes; an iPhone application; large outdoor real-time passenger screens installed at the rabbittransit Transfer Center; and a Rider Alert system that sends texts and emails to riders with service updates.
Special funding was received for the project from a grant specifically dedicated for technology. For more information on any of the new technology services, please visit our home page and click on the smarthop icon.
